The Civil War: Avoidance Potential
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Inasmuch as there were tremendous political, economic, social, and legal changes occurring just prior to the Civil War, could this bloody battle have been averted by any course of action? Indeed, it can readily be argued that a handful of singular battles may have, indeed, been avoided in the long run; however, the Civil War was destined to explode with much the same anger it had in spite of great strides to prevent such an outburst. However, there was one aspect of the war's instigation that could not have seen any circumvention: the threat to national democracy. The writer discusses that when assessing this historical possibility, it is important to consider the fact that fury was high between the two sides, rendering a complete absolution extremely unlikely. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Henry Wirz / Scapegoat For Civil War Crimes At Andersonville
[ send me this paper ]
Confederate Major Henry Wirz has had his name soiled throughout history as the man responsible for some horrendous war crimes (mostly at Andersonville) during the conflict between North and South. In fact, he was the only Southern official to be executed for such crimes at the conclusion of the Civil War. In this 40 page thesis, the writer argues that Wirz was not as guilty as historians make him out to be;-- Through an in-depth analysis of Civil War history, the point is made that Wirz was actually only a scapegoat--and not genuinely responsible for the crimes that were committed. Bibliography lists approximately 30 sources.

Irene Hunt's 'Across Five Aprils'
[ send me this paper ]
In 5 pages the author discusses the main characters, the plot, the theme, a brief analysis and a review of 'Across Five Aprils' by Irene Hunt. ''Across Five Aprils' is the unforgettable story of a boy who comes of age during the turbulent years of the Civil War. This is a good book that will keep the reader breathless to the very end. The mood during the Civil War is captured perfectly by author Irene Hunt. She secures the viewpoint of the families during the war. This is accentuated by the fact that brothers at times had to fight brothers. This book is both a historically authentic Civil War novel and a beautifully written story of one family's coping with the war and its many problems.'
