Groom is the author of 'Forrest Gump' as well but his current book distinguishes itself in providing a factual account of the account of one of the most turbulent times in U.S. history, the Civil War. Groom concentrates on the time period which spanned July 1864 to December 1864 and the battles of Atlanta and Nashville and targets not the casual reader but instead at the avid history buff. The Civil War robber barons were capitalists. They were able to acquire considerable wealth by exploitation and hard-heartedness, but they were actually captains of industry and have contributed to today's industrialization.
